My Web2.0

Bram.us 2.0After reading the What is Web 2.0? article that tries to sum it all up for those still in the greyzone of Web 2.0 I was wondering how I myself would describe the phenomenon dubbed "Web 2.0" in only one sentence. Here goes nothing…

it’s a state of mind, not a technology.

  1. Joeri, I don’t think it’s a bubble at all.

The techniques used in a Web 2.0 site (intensive DOM manipulation, xhtml validity, css techniques, etc) sure are inventive and do bring extra advantages. A refreshing approach to the grahpical aspect also is in place.

Both of them already have proven that they work, thus not being a bubble at all. By combining the techniques and graphical aspect, the characteristics of web 2.0 (Tagging, RUX, participation, etc.) can be achieved.

Of course you have those claiming that they’re Web 2.0, although they have it wrong. Example here – in my point of view – is youtube. Okay they have user driven content and support tags, but that does not make them Web 2.0 in my eyes (and I’m not the only one).

Anywho, back to the “state of mind” thing: Imagine that I have a menu I can set the sortorder. The old way would let it sort by adding lots of up and down images and then doing some posts. Moving an item from position ten to one would call for nine clicks.
The new way would be by creating a list which one can manipulate by using a drag and drop design pattern, greatly improving the user experience (only 1 click needed).
(more on user experience here – scroll down to just after the pic where everybody is raising their hands)

    >> It’s all about the attitude (state of mind): yes I could do it the old way, but the new way just is better.
