Photosynth most likely is not unknown to you (mentioned it quite a few times already), but the first part of the demo on Seadragon might have been. Damn impressive demo! (Think of the new marketing aspects when using Seadragon to read a newspaper (which is demonstrated))

Il permet en effet de charger progressivement les images au fur et à mesure de la descente dans la page (seules les images visibles par l’utilisateur sont chargées). wow, first time i am happy that we have pc’s at work. that demo on ted.com was really impressing. weird that there is no such thing on os x yet though. (pronounce weird like damnit!)
