Last week Shaun “The Wolf” redesigned. He redesigned big time, and I like it … I like it a lot!
The site is just perfect. So perfect that it even makes people write about it. I won’t go into detail myself, because the guys over at Opus Mag already have done a great job on writing about SI9 (a must read!)
However, not everything is perfect right now: “It does look like there are a few kinks that Inman’s still working out. He’s still working on the algorithms that figure out the color shading, and so some of the resulting color combinations might be a bit jarring at first.“, yet a user can always fall back on the “restore its original contrast” link.
Not sure where to find this link all the time (most of the time it’s on the top right of the page, but sometimes it’s not), I’ve created this tiny tiny bookmarklet (really tiny) to make things easier (that’s the whole point behind bookmarklets).
Yeah yeah, I know it’s not a huge nor very important bookmarklet, yet it exists and I use it. Maybe you can use it too
To use it yourself, hust drag SI_CONTRAST to your quicklaunch toolbar and click it whenever you need it.
Anywho, kudos to Inman on his new design and concepts; both the CSS and the “The Heap” concept. The latter reminds me a bit of John Gruber’s and Jason Kottke’s site concepts – named Tumblelogs – , a concept I’ve been thinking about for quite a while yet haven’t coded yet (time – as usual – is short, and WordPress quite does it for me atm).
Bramus.out!
Bram.us is the technical/geeky weblog of Bram Van Damme (nicknamed Bramus!), a 28 year old geezer raised in Deinze and living in
i know the man, and i liked his site. and i am not saying this cos i dont like to jump on the bandwagon and cheer with the crowd “he’s the wolf!” — i had no problem to do that — he IS the wolf
but sorry, i dont like the redisgn at all. maybe i am really just judging by the aesthetics, if that is so then thats how i work, but i think i gave it a little thought as well. ok, i understand the concept of this 180 gr . heavyweight inkjet-paper to faded ancient papyrus transition css-overkill. i mean i understand what it should do. but is it really doing it? who cares that an older post looks different? it has a date tag on it, or?
it might be an idea for something different, but to me (and ?maybe? i am just going by aesthetics- but thats what you look at at first) it is mumpitz. boohoo
Manu, be sure to check out Shaun’s site again, cos’ today it got redesigned!
It’s even better than it already was!
looks well. but still, the in-your-face “read about the color concept” everywhere-message is disturbing.
what he should have done: do itz, but bury the “how to” somewhere in the faqs. it is distracting imo. i say it again: what do i care? it really really is a fancy design gimmick, pretty fancy to be honest, but the way he publishes and uses it is überhyped. too much.
site aestheticly: 1A+
